We've been doing a lot of exploring with 2D and 3D Shapes in Math this week!
We were building all different kinds of polygons, noticing their sides, angles, and vertices. We even began to explore different kinds of angles: we know two sides that are perpendicular make a 90 degree or right angle, and any angle that is larger than 90 degrees is an obtuse angle and angles smaller than 90 degrees are acute angles.
We also played Shape Muncher with Unifix Cubes to help us learn the names of different shapes
On Wednesday, we did some experimenting with 3D shapes. After sorting the shapes into different categories, we had races with all the curved 3D shapes to see which one would travel the furthest!
We had a lot of fun making some cool geometric designs with our pattern blocks! Some of us made our own creations, and others worked together to make their masterpiece.
All of our shape knowledge has come in handy, as we are using what we know to help the leprechaun Leroy McClumsy find his pot of gold by solving math problems to get clues to help us solve the mystery! Next week, we will start to explore with area and we will continue to help Leroy find his pot of gold before St. Paddy's Day!
