Google Expeditions

Last Wednesday, SMS students in grades 2-5 were given a very special experience. Alex, a representative from Google, was here to promote their latest pioneering program: Google Expeditions. Expeditions is a virtual reality program built for the classroom. Using Google Cardboard and an app designed specifically for an educational, interactive tour, students got to experience an amazing "field trip" right from their seats in our Maker Space!

We journeyed across the globe with Mrs. Healey's Owls and Mrs. Atherton's Kangaroos. We got to see the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial, Mount Rushmore, Yellowstone National Park, Yosemite National Park, The Grand Canyon. creatures of the ocean and The Great Barrier Reef, The Great Wall of China, and even Mount Everest!

Each of our expeditions consisted of several 360 degree pictures, which allowed us to experience the area we traveled to and all of its surroundings, making it an immersive virtual journey.

We are very grateful to Mrs. Wentworth and Mr. Gagnon for contacting Google and creating the opportunity for us to be Google Expedition Pioneers
