Oh Canada!

On Tuesday, we got to open our package from our Canadian Global Read Aloud Buddies! We made a few guesses about what might be inside and then we opened it right up. We were so excited to see all of the goodies inside!

Not only did they send each of us a Canadian Flag and lanyard, but they also sent us some special snacks from Saskatchewan (Saskatoon berries and roasted lentils, which we cannot wait to sample!) and they also sent us stickers, letters, postcards, the Saskatchewan Flag, and a CD of different versions of the Canadian National Anthem, Oh Canada!

We learned that their community is very similar to ours, because they too have lots of farmland in their town. We got to see Canadian Currency (their $1 coin is called a "loonie" and their $2 coin is called a "toonie" and they no longer use pennies!) and we also learned that they measure temperature in degrees Celsius and they use the metric system to measure! We also learned that Canada is the second largest country in the whole world. Wow!

We are so grateful for their generosity and to have the opportunity to learn about their community in such a meaningful way. We are very excited to continue on our reading journey with them in the weeks ahead!
