On Monday, we went to Mrs. Atherton's class for our next science experiment, where we learned all about static electricity using balloons, paper dots, and our own heads of hair!
First, we tried picking up paper dots with our uncharged balloons, but the paper dots remained on our desks. In order to "charge" our balloons, we rubbed them on our hair to create static electricity. When we rub the balloon on our heads, the balloon takes negatively charged particles (electrons), which gives the balloon a negative charge. Since opposites attract, the positively charged hair and paper dots will stick to the negatively charged balloon!
After we finished our experiment, Mrs. Atherton gave us a bit of time to play with our materials :) We had a blast!
